Name Spelling?

What's the reasoning for preferring this particular spelling of his name? Obviously, the original spelling is in Arabic... Is there a standardized way to translate it to English? If so, can we use that and reference it? Chaoticidealism (talk) 23:30, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Where have all the other key pieces of information of this story gone?

I find this article in it's current form tailored towards damage control more than presenting a neutral view of what has transpired. Unfortunately I can't edit it as it's subject to the 500/30 rule. But to other editors out there, here are some missing key elements from the article:-

• There is no mention of the testimonial of the care giver who witnessed Hallaq's murder attesting the man was shot from close range while lying injured and trapped in the garbage room even as she -the caregiver- screamed at the border police in Hebrew and Arabic that he is a disabled man.

• There is no mention of the police seemingly working to block the release of the video recordings of the incident or the chase. This is important to counter the claims that a "rookie shooter" thought he was in real danger while -of course- chasing and shooting at the autistic man for several minutes.

• There is no mention that the area where the incident took place is in East Jerusalem an area considered by the international community to be occupied by Israel since the end of the 1967 war and subject to "continuing systematic human right violations of the Palestinian people". It's important to highlight this incident as not an exception to the rule but as one part of a long sequence of incidents and link to other Wikipedia articles on the subject.

• There is no photo of the victim or his family or any of the protests that happened on the Palestinian side

• There is not a single reference from a Palestinian or Arab media

• There is no mention that almost always investigations into Israeli police or solders brutalities result in nothing, even when the evidence is overwhelming

I am not looking for emotive additions, just documenting neutrally the details of this incident. And I am reaching out to all editors even the ones who are pro Israel to help out. Why would you not want to document these incidents as they happened. Perhaps if we have done a better job with previous incidents like this one this tragedy as the Prime minister of Israel called it wouldn't have happened.

Thank you Z. You have raised a second important discrepancy from the source about the location that I didn't catch. The first of course was the description of the shots as "warning shots" which the source didn't state. I am familiar with Jerusalem and I know that the old city -where the Golden Dome, the holy church of sepulcher and the western wall are at - are all part of East Jerusalem and considered to be a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since the 1967 war. This is not my opinion this is the opinion of every country in this world except Israel, rulings of the international court of justice about the legality of the separation wall, and various UN assembly and council resolutions state that. Even the supreme court in the US in Zivotofsky v. Kerry supported the American government in denying an Israeli/American couple of putting Jerusalem/Israel on the passport of their newly Jerusalem born baby. But most people out there don't know that and you are not an exception to the rule. I mean when was the last time you saw a major publication or news media outlet mentioning that? Why such a profound piece of information is not known to many many people out there? Let's find comfort that we at least can have the ability to to document what we know as neutral observers. We are not here to correct the wrongs in this world but at least we will be of clear conscious documenting these moments of history for the next generations to come.

Locations involved

The article currently has The checkpoint was part of the daily walk from Halaq's home in Jerusalem's Wadi al-Joz area in the Old City to the center which he had attended since 2014. This gives the incorrect impression that his home was inside the old city and leaves the reader wondering where the school is.

But the source cited says Early on Saturday morning in the Wadi el-Joz neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem, he sipped tea made by his mother Rana … The family home is just a 10-minute walk from the Old City … he walked with his teacher towards the Elwyn Al-Quds school, close to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound …

For a minimal change, we could flip "in the Old City to the center" → "to the school in the Old City".

Our own (i.e. en-wp) articles say that Wadi al-Joz and Old City (Jerusalem) are in East Jerusalem, so using that term here should be uncontroversial. (For what it’s worth, I didn't know that about the Old City before today.) If editors want to fight each other over that, then go nuts. Perhaps in this case instead of BRD we could DBDRD…etc. – note that I’ve started with this D.

Now that the court has let the killer free coupled with the fact that this is not an isolated incident, I think you should. At least to help educate people not to confuse social awkwardness with hostility. Info is outdated

I would like to add at the end of the section 'Investigation':

al-Hallaq's parents have petitioned the High Court of Justice to conclude the investigation of the case and put the two police officers involved on trial . On October 21, 2020 Israeli prosecutors recommended that the police officer who shot and killed al-Hallaq be charged with manslaughter .

Why is this Extended Confirmed protected?

I know that this is related to the Arab-israeli conflict, but there has been no edit war, and no vandalism. The Murder of George Floyd is only semi-protected, but it's far more famous then this, so I see no reason to do Extended Confirmed protected on this page. Crocusfleur (talk) 11:15, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Add information about the acquittal of the officer: On July 6, 2023, he was acquitted of all charges based on his argument that he fired in self-defense and reasonably believed that al-Hallaq was a terrorist attempting an attack.
