Lots of overlap w/ Cook stove
edit@ Clayoquot and @Chidgk1 there is a lot of overlap at the moment w/ the article at Cook stove -- I wonder if we want to extract/rebuild a bit how that is working --do you have a better sense on how/what is different about the two different perspectives -- can we purge content from Cook stove that could be better held here, etc. Sadads (talk) 15:14, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Great question! I've posted links to this discussion on the talk pages of Cook stove and Indoor air pollution in developing nations. After mulling this over I think the best solution would be to move Clean cooking to Energy poverty and cooking, and move Cook stove to Improved cook stove. We could shuffle some content from cook stove over to Energy poverty and cooking. Many of the links to cook stove from other articles should be retargeted to Energy poverty and cooking. For instance, Burn currently links to cook stove, but Energy poverty and cooking would be a better target because there are many solutions other than improved cook stoves. - I will go ahead and move Clean cooking to Energy poverty and cooking as I don't think it will be controversial. I plan to make a formal proposal to move Cook stove to Improved cook stove later. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 05:27, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
There is a related article called Indoor air pollution in developing countries
editThere is another article called Indoor air pollution in developing countries which overlaps in some sections with this article, e.g. on the aspects of gender and indoor air pollution. Let's make sure the two articles are nicely in sync. Some sections could perhaps be moved from there to here or vice versa. E.g. I would be tempted to add more on indoor air pollution but then I saw it's already in the other article. Let's make sure they complement each other nicely. - And here are two references by WHO on indoor air pollution which could be useful if they haven't been integrated yet: https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/household-air-pollution-and-health and https://www.who.int/airpollution/guidelines/household-fuel-combustion/en/ EMsmile (talk) 01:59, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
Use excerpt function for the section on "improved cookstove"?
editI think it might be better to use the excerpt function for the section on "improved cookstove" so that we don't have to update and maintain content in two articles. The same would apply if any other paragraphs are duplicated from here in the improved cookstove article - consider the use of an excerpt there instead of copy & paste? Merger proposal
editI propose to merge the first three sections of Improved cookstove into Energy poverty and cooking. (I have proposed splitting the fourth section, Improved cookstove#Types, into a separate article. As others have noted, there is a lot of overlap between these two articles, and I've also become aware that some sources use the term "clean" to refer to improved biomass stoves. The merged article should have a section on terminology that explains the heterogeneity in what words are used for what. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 22:52, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support for reasons given.--Iztwoz (talk) 08:41, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support, as I support anything that reduces overlap between articles. But the remaining article could still be called "improved cookstoves", or would you say it's important to rename it to "Improved cookstove types"? EMsmile (talk) 03:13, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- I suggest List of improved cookstove types as it will be a list rather than an overview of the entire topic. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 04:54, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- does that mean there would no longer be an article called "improved cookstoves"? EMsmile (talk) 08:05, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- That's right. The terms Improved cookstove" and "Improved cookstoves would both redirect to Energy poverty and cooking Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 20:32, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- does that mean there would no longer be an article called "improved cookstoves"? EMsmile (talk) 08:05, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

- Comment: I am all for merging and removing overlap in general but I think an article on "Improved cookstoves" - purely focused on technology aspects (not repeating health and social aspects) - might still be useful. About 384 articles currently link to it. I am not sure if they should all link to Energy poverty and cooking. Unless we redirect improved cookstoves to a dedicated section called Energy poverty and cooking#Improved cookstoves - would that be the plan? EMsmile (talk) 17:15, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support I also support the merge as described. @Clayoquot:, I think you've got a consensus to merge here. Joyous! | Talk 00:24, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 10:49, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
New publication on facilitators and barriers to the implementation of improved solid fuel cookstoves and clean fuels
editThis publication on the Lancet looks very useful for this article: "Facilitators and barriers to the implementation of improved solid fuel cookstoves and clean fuels in low-income and middle-income countries: an umbrella review" (link here). EMsmile (talk) 09:05, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi everyone. As proposed above and at Talk:Improved cookstove, I took the list of cookstoves and made them into a separate article called List of improved cookstoves. This article was subsequently moved to draftspace by Onel5969, and is now at Draft:List of improved cookstoves. Onel5969 indicated on my talk page that the draft could be made ready for mainspace by 1) adding references to unsourced sections, or by 2) deleting unsourced sections, or by some combination of 1 and 2. Any editor may move the draft to mainspace when they feel it is ready.
Would anyone like to try making these improvements?
