I will never return to the music industry
editSo says Spears. This worth adding? Kailash29792 (talk) 03:57, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Popcornfud (talk) 12:19, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- So that means that Britney has retired from the music business, it should now change to a retired American singer. 82.19.40.217 (talk) 12:24, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Clearly she hasn't retired from the music industry if she is writing songs for other artists and duetting with Elton John! https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/jan/04/britney-spears-denies-reports-of-a-new-album-i-will-never-return-to-the-music-industry
- A lot will depend on her thinking at the precise time she posted on Instagram.
- Elton John has retired almost every year in the last half decade. The words are meaningless and often designed to stoke up interest in some future potential ticket sales war and boost live performance fees, where the real money is earned. Taylor Swift is proof if proof is needed. Spears is merely resting and not retired. Jaymailsays (talk) 15:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- "Retired" would add little value to the article, even if she never works again. These things rarely have much concrete meaning. Instead just report what she/reliable sources say.
- If Spears says she will never return to the music industry, then report that Spears said she will never return to the music industry. Keep it simple. Popcornfud (talk) 16:30, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Right! She is still active as a songwriter, and she can sing whenever she wants on her own terms. Don't say "former singer".[1] Don't limit her career activity to 2023[2][3] or 2024.[4] Don't predict which piece of music will be her last.[5] Keep it simple, and stay just a bit skeptical about anybody famous saying that they are retiring. Binksternet (talk) 19:00, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- She's released two singles and a book since the first time she said she was done with the industry. I don't know why people are making such a huge deal about it this time around. Pokémon Spears (talk) 02:04, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- For example, Nicki Minaj claimed she was retiring and has released 14 songs and album since that time, including 2 number one singles.
With Sagittariuses you never know what the truth is.We are not truly clairvoyant. Trillfendi (talk) 23:26, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- So that means that Britney has retired from the music business, it should now change to a retired American singer. 82.19.40.217 (talk) 12:24, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
In the lead shouldn't singer be changed to former singer then? 104.255.169.110 (talk) 04:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Understanding what maternal grandfather means
editA person can have only one maternal grandfather. "one of Spears' maternal grandfathers was Maltese" should be changed. Probably to "Spears' maternal grandfather was Maltese" as that is what is supported by the associated reference... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.196.60 (talk) 12:27, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- The source in question was a memoir written by Lynne Spears, the mother of Britney Spears. I’m assuming (unless otherwise stated) that Lynne was describing her own family history, so her Maltese maternal grandfather would be one of her daughter’s great-grandfathers.
- I’ve fixed wording now, as that might explain the confusion. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 08:40, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Nature Moon The two sources you provided in the article do not state that there divorce proceedings were finalized.
People (magazine) "and the papers now await signoff from a judge to finalize the split."[1]
Billboard (magazine) "To be finalized, the deal must now be signed by the judge overseeing the case."[2]
I have corrected the information of these two sources for the article. Cena332 (talk) 20:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Cena332 I understand. Thanks for noticing. Nature Moon (talk) 21:04, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Nature Moon Ok just be careful next time to read the content in the article. Lot of gotcha headlines Cena332 (talk) 21:06, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Divorce
editI think there's some confusion regarding her divorce from Asghari. I recently added her divorce finalization from AP News which states it was finalized last Friday, indicating April 26[6] But then there’s other sources stating it will be finalized on her birthday? I've never heard of having to wait 7 months for a divorce to actually be finalized. Anyone know what should be stated and placed in infobox? - @Funnyfarmofdoom: @Cena332: What are your thoughts on this? I just noticed your recent discussion regarding this. Pillowdelight (talk) 00:46, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- By California law, the divorce can't be final for at least 6 months (called a waiting period). [7][8] In May a agreement was reached on spousal support. Cena332 (talk) 22:02, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
