Destruction of Niniveh
editIn the Region (Iraq, Iran and Kurdistan) the destruction of Niniveh is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of spring (Newroz holiday), which is March, 21st. Is there any source pointing to August the 10th? Erdal Ronahi 07:16, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)
UK record temperature
editWhy is the UK record temperature being reverted from the official figure used by the Met Office and the UK goverment statistics office to one listed on someone's homepage? I've changed it back, and unless I see a clear explanation of why the Met Office have got it wrong, I'll restore the Met Office version every time. Average Earthman 10:42, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- Should this domestic event be included on this article? Are highest and lowest temperatures, most rainfall / snowfall, highest windspeed etc. on other Day articles? It should certainly be on 2003 in the United Kingdom, but I believe the Events section of Day and Year articles are for events of international relevance. - It doesn't seem like much more than trivia. These events have shown up on some date pages but they really have no significance. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:42, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
August 10 edit
editHi, I was just wondering how come the edits on that page on Toronto propane disaster and 2008 Summer Olympics record breaking was deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by HHH Fanatic (talk • contribs) 19:31, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- The Toronto propane event was removed for two reasons: First, it was not supported by a linked article. That is the most important criteria for inclusion - that it has to be supported. The second reason is that the event is unlikely to be a long term globally notable event. There were no deaths and it is only of local interest. The Olympic event was incomplete and I was confident that someone would come along to add a fully developed listing in a short time. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:42, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Latvian festivals
editYet another Latvian festival. Why do these keep appearing with links to the Latvian mythology page when the latter has been disputed (and not corrected) for years? The Lesser Merlin (talk) 10:31, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know about appearing, it seems to have been there for years. If they bug you get rid of them,
I don't think anyone is going to object.Holidays that are no longer observed are against the current DOY policy anyway. Winston365 (talk) 18:46, 10 August 2010 (UTC) - Actually now I am leaning in favor of keeping them. Winston365 (talk) 20:58, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, Ancient Latvian festival certainly has lots of problem. But remember Jāņi is a popular day (basically the same as midsummer's day festival); so these festivals do exist, but not well-documented with sources, thus questionable. I'm not an expert in these article, but this day do exist in the same level as the Neopagan holiday (Mabon, Samhain, Litha, etc.), so I don't think people made up this article. It's just one of those existing knowledge, waiting to be found by the world. --Rochelimit (talk) 20:48, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- What exactly is it you object to about these festivals? Winston365 (talk) 20:55, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I object to spurious inventions. If it is a neopagan or some other form of modern festival, it should clearly say so. However, it should not be labelled as an "Ancient Latvian festival" without clear evidence. My objection is that, in the past, this has rarely been clear and the assertion "ancient" has been going unchallenged, apparently justified by links to the dubious Latvian mythology page. The Lesser Merlin (talk) 13:11, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- From WP:DAYS#Style "References are not needed in Wikicalendar articles. However, references to support listed entries must be found in linked Wikipedia articles and not external links." It certainly is worrying that the Latvian mythology page has no references at all, and all of the external links are dead. Of all of these holidays, only Jāņi seems to actually have any references, so at least some of them should probably be removed. You could try bringing the Latvian mythology article up over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mythology or Wikipedia:WikiProject Latvia. Someone on one of those projects might know more about this. The article looks like a mess to me. Winston365 (talk) 21:34, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Francesco Acerbi
editHello. There seems to be a mistake with Francesco Acerbi's birthday because it's listed as August 10th on the page, but listed as February 10th on his page. Which is correct? Thanks for your assistance. Jay (talk) 00:35, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
International Biodiesel Day
editDoesn't seem to be a real thing. a) the link brings us to a brief mention, which is supported by a footnote that doesn't indicate who decided this, and in any case says March 18. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 14:31, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Could you add Death of Jeffrey Epstein?
editCould you add Death of Jeffrey Epstein to 2020's on this day? It's decently written and is currently a GAN. ~ HAL333 19:16, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. ~ HAL333 22:48, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
The Battle of Maldon
editThe article for the Battle of Maldon tells us it took place on the 11th August, AD991.
Is it possible for someone to double check the date, and either: move the entry, here, to the 11th August, or correct the entry on the Battle.
Thanks in anticipation! Cuddy2977 (talk) 11:13, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
