Publication history

edit

Breach was originally intended to be a reboot of Captain Atom, until management at DC decided not to revise the character, who was last rebooted during the late 1980s. With the development of Breach already underway, the decision was made to partially rewrite the plot and characters and create an original superhero. Evidence of the change remains in the first issue, where Zanetti is called "Major Adams" twice.

Fictional character biography

edit

Tim Zanetti is a US Army Major who worked for "Project Otherside", a secret Arctic nuclear reactor that can access other dimensions. After an accident imbues him with interdimensional energy, he is rendered comatose for 20 years and given a special containment suit.

In the present day, Zanetti awakens to discover that his former wife Helen has married his former colleague Mac McClellan. MacClellan falsely claims that Zanetti's family was killed in the accident that created him and has him battle the interdimensional Rifters.

Breach was cancelled by DC and the eleventh and final issue was released in November 2005.

In Infinite Crisis, Breach helps defend Metropolis from the Secret Society of Super Villains before apparently being killed by Superboy-Prime.[1][2]

In Countdown: Arena, Monarch discovers Breach in the Quantum Dimension and forces him into his servitude. Breach eventually escapes Monarch's control, only to be killed by him.[3]

In Blackest Night, Breach is revived as a Black Lantern before being killed again by Superboy-Prime.[4]

Breach's son, Tim Zanetti Jr., later joins the military-funded Project 7734 under the command of General Sam Lane.[5]

Powers and abilities

edit

Similar to Captain Atom, Breach possesses vast superhuman physical abilities, and can fly and transmute elements. He can also "melt" biological substances with a touch.[citation needed]
