These vehicles are notable for being [[Screw-propelled vehicle]]s (in Russian: шнекохо́д), allowing it to traverse inhospitable terrains. The vehicle was designed to recover re-entered [[Soyuz programme|Soyuz]] space capsules from difficult terrain.
