Graphics Lab/Illustration workshop

The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

Advice to requesters

All requests: Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies. If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account. Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed. If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}. SVG requests: Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize. Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. @QuickQuokka: Thank you, and sorry for the delay in responding. Well, all three designs originate from BBC Derby. According to the original website, the designer of the original concept was Leon Summers, with BBC Derby modifying his submission to create what was known as "Design 3". Which is also exactly what BBC Derby did with Martin Enright's submission, modifying it to create "Design 1" (which was of course chosen as Derbyshire's flag). Hence, I'd recommend giving the new file the same CR tag as "Design 1". Hope this helps. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:29, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

@Snow Lion Fenian: The description page of the file says it's released to the public domain by the author, and supposedly also the author (I don't really believe the uploader is the author), but there's no source to verify that unfortunately. @QuickQuokka: Good point, and profuse apologies for the excessively long delay in getting back to you. Well, I certainly don't pretend to be an expert on CR licenses on Wikipedia. The impression I've gotten is that the uploader wanted to waive their rights to the file, but went about it the wrong way, resulting in using a license that creates a slight bit of confusion. After considering it all, I'd now recommend giving the new file the "Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported", in order to cover the same bases while making it clear that the uploader is not the original designer. If you look at the very top of the emblem, you can see it. There is a gap where you can see a gap, with transparency, above the top left side of the golden frame. Indefatigable2 ^talk 14:17, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I know this seems big but it does use some simple elements so it won't so long. I was wondering if someone (it can be more than one user) can kindly please vectorize the flags and logos of the Albanian, Austrian, Brazilian, Canadian and Chilean Olympic Committees? Almost all of these are shown on the "Flags of the World" website and are found in the following links. Albanian National Olympic Committee https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/[email protected]#for, Austrian Olympic Committee https://www.fotw.info/flags/[email protected], Brazilian Olympic Committee https://www.fotw.info/flags/[email protected], Canadian Olympic Committee https://www.fotw.info/flags/[email protected] and Croatian Olympic Committee https://www.fotw.info/flags/[email protected]. The exception is the Chilean Olympic Committee but that is just the logo (which is already on Commons) placed in the middle of the middle of a white background. This request is already big enough as it is so I won't spent too long explaining though the empty files help with what flags and logos need to be done and the links show what they look like.
