Vässarö was long used for [[Agriculture|farming]] but was bought in 1936 by [[Captain (nautical)|sea captain]] [[Ragnar Westin]], who planned to use it for his retirement. The programme for boys (Våra Pojkar) started in 1931 and for girls (Våra Flickor) in 1936. Boys and girls got the same name and programme in 1957, but still in different sections. The sections became co-ed in 1972. Nyingscout started in 1974 and Seniorscout in 1988.
