Background and history
In 2006, My Chemical Romance released their third studio album, The Black Parade (2006).[1] The album was a critical and commercial success, going on to be certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA[1] and listed as one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.[1][2] The album was supported by a concert tour that began in 2007,[3] where the band played the album in its entirety[4] as the "Black Parade", an alter-ego band that the album was named after.[5] They played under the Black Parade alias until the tours final show on October 24, 2007, when the alter-ego was killed off.[6] In 2024, My Chemical Romance headlined the When We Were Young festival, where they performed the The Black Parade in its entirety for the first time since 2007.[1] It was also the first time the band had performed several of their songs (e.g. "Cancer", "Disenchanted") in over a decade.[7]
On November 11, 2024, the band posted a teaser on their Instagram page, depicting the skyline of a white city with pieces of confetti floating around, with the letters KCR arranged in a new logo.[8] The post also had the caption "If you could be anything, what would you be?".[1] The teaser image generated fan speculation, due to it being unclear what exactly it was alluding to. Many drew connections between the image and My Chemical Romance's scrapped fifth album, The Paper Kingdom, and believed that the teaser was hinting towards the release of new material from the band.[8][9]
The day after the teaser was posted,[1] My Chemical Romance announced the Long Live The Black Parade tour. Ten shows across North America were announced, all spanning across 2025;[1][10] the majority of shows will take place at Major League Baseball stadiums.[10] During the tour, My Chemical Romance is set to perform the entirety of The Black Parade, with each date having a unique opening act (e.g. Evanescence, 100 gecs).[11] Tickets are set to go on sale on November 15, 2024.[12]
The band also released a teaser trailer alongside the tour announcement,[13][14] which features a military officer walking out onto a balcony to a cheering crowd in a white-colored city.[15] The description of the trailer references the time that had passed since the last appearance of the Black Parade alter-ego, which has since become labeled as "His Grand Immortal Dictator's National Band". It also describes the tour as the bands "work privilege [being] ceremoniously reinstated" to celebrate the culture and achievements of a fictional dictatorship known as Draag.[14]
