Born in [[Lübeck]], as the oldest child of Senator Thomas Johann Heinrich Mann, [[grain trade|grain merchant]] and finance minister of the [[Free City of Lübeck]], a state of the [[German Empire]], and [[Júlia da Silva Bruhns]].
