Politics: I'm not sure who copy-pasted this misinformation onto the pages of seemingly every county in central/eastern TN, but this statement is very innacurate. Simply checking other wikipedia pages about the history of local towns will confirm this. There were lots of small regional variations in local sympathies due to the geography of Tennessee, not to mention significant cultural/religious/genetic diversity of the inhabitants. This trend was even stronger in Missouri, Arkansas, etc.
