It is undoubtedly correct the statement that supports that Commedia dell’arte has affected, until... more It is undoubtedly correct the statement that supports that Commedia dell’arte has affected, until today, the way that actors perform on stage. It is commonly accepted that this type of Italian comedy has set the path of values which has influenced the modern European theatre. Generally international cinematography has been influenced by the characters of Commedia dell’arte and its revolutionary spirit. For example, the characters of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, who performed in silent movies of 50s and 60s, derived from Commedia dell’arte as their stance liken Arlechinno and Brighella respectively. Furthermore, in Greek cinematography there is a critical connection between the comedies of the period of 55s to 70s as there are many parts of improvisation and key characters seem to be influenced from the old troupes of the 16th century. The aim of this paper is to bring to light the fundamental connection of Commedia dell’arte and the comedies of Greek cinema from 1955 to 1970 focusing on actors and performances.
