From an south Eastern Algonquian language. Compare a Lenape gen'tke'n ("to sing, dance, etc.") as well as Powhatan kantokan (“dance”) and kantikanti (“dance かつ sing”).^[1]

1. A sacred ceremony of the Algonquin tribe that involved dancing in a circle, at which colonists were not welcome.
