Close readings of two Beat poets, Diane di Prima and Anne Waldman are undertaken with this premise, using Buddhist philosophies as an interpretive device to support this claim. Issues of performativity, feminist political activism, and humour are explored in a Buddhist context, and the relevance of the work of the Beats in the twenty first century is explored.
