Ice is a breath attack in the Dragon Quest series. In the original Japanese version of Dragon Quest III, the name of all ice breaths were the same even if they differed in strength.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest III[edit]
There are three levels of ice breath in the original Japanese version of the game on the Famicom. The weakest deals 9~20 damage and corresponds to Cool Breath, the second deals 40~59 damage and would become Chilly Breath, and the strongest deals 100~139 damage, being only used by Zoma and becoming Freezing Blizzard in remake versions of the game. In the original NES version of Dragon Warrior III, each monster was described by the in-game text as emitting "gales of blizzard breath".
Dragon Quest IV[edit]
In the original Japanese version on the Famicom, Blizzard can be used by Chillanodon, Dragooner, Moosifer, and Estark. It inflicts 40~60 ice breath damage to the entire party. In all other versions of the game, it would be replaced by Chilly Breath.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
Ice can be learned by Great dragon through the Talent Blossoming sidequest starting in Version 2.0 and costs 89 MP to use. It breathes out a blizzard in a fan-shaped area in front of it, inflicting major Crack-type breath damage to all enemies in the area of effect. Upgrading the ability increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use.
