43K views · 342 reactions | Pool Noodle Fall Decor Hack | Stick a Dollar Store pool noodle into a bookshelf for this genius idea! | By DIY with Hometalk | I grabbed a pool noodle at Dollar Tree and pretty flowers from Michael's. Any guesses what I'm making today? First things first, we need to cut this pool noodle to the width of my bookshelf. I marked a cut line with a sharpie and cut it with a scissors then I cut a slit lengthwise down the entire pool noodle. Now, we can open up the pool noodle and pop it onto the front edge of our bookshelf like so and now for the fun part, adding all of our pretty flowers. I used a wire cutter to trim the flowers into individual stems and then, you simply poke the wire end each flower into the foam pool noodle and push it in until the flowers are placed how you want them. Isn't this such a clever decorating hack? I started by adding some greenery on both ends and then I added my largest flowers to the center as a focal point. I worked my way from the edges to the middle from there layering in more and more stems as I went. I focused on balancing both sides with similar colors and sizes of florals and I kept going until all of the gaps were filled in so the pool noodle was completely hidden from view. One thing to keep in mind as you arrange your flowers is to play around with the depth and height. Don't be afraid to mix in different textures, sizes, and colors to add more depth and dimension and don't you think this would be such a genius decorating hack for weddings and other special occasions and the cool part is that you can use this technique not just on bookshelf but also on the edges of other surfaces like mantles, window sills, tables, counters, or even the tops of cabinets. I was so curious to give this project a try and see if it really worked and I'm really impressed with the results. I styled my bookshelf with some earth-tone decor for fall and I love how the whole look turned out on my living room built-ins. I went to my local TJ Maxx and I found this really pretty picture frame. I have this brick of styrofoam that I got from Walmart and all I'm going to do is snip off a very small square. After cutting my little brick of foam, I'm just going to take some hot glue using my glue skillet. After that, we can take our little piece of styrofoam and secure it the side of the oval picture frame. So what we're going to do is simply and solely just snip them about two inches long. So we're going to start with some of this greenery. I'm going to place one down below. We'll do the same thing up top and we're going to just fill in with some of our beautiful flowers. So we don't want to see the foam in the end. We essentially want a picture frame full of beautiful flowers. Next time you're at the thrift store pick yourself up a couple of lampshades. To begin my project I just took apart the lampshade so I just began with some scissors cutting apart the fabric and ripping it off. I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to put this little knob back on. Then I'm going to go ahead here with a hot glue gun just going to attach this faux moss onto the wired parts. I came in with these solar fairy lights and wrapped them all around my lampshade. Next time you're at the garden center, make sure you grab a tomato cage. I took the prongs of the tomato cage and I attached them together at the end using a zip tie. Then, I'm going to take some greenery and I'm going to begin wrapping it around with zip ties making sure that it holds in place. I'm going to work on some fairy lights here around as well. These are battery operated and then, I'm going to take a old rusty planter that I have that needs a little bit of a makeover. So, I'm just going to spray it with some primer and then as well I'm going to spray it with a nice almond color spray paint. Fill it with rocks to add some weight and then I'm going to put my tomato cage upside down.
