I've been busy here at The Painted Quilt. I think everyone has some kind of "thing" for lighthouses, myself included. Since moving to Nova Scotia in 2010, I've become even more enamored with them. Nova Scotia is the farthest eastern mainland Canadian province that is almost completely surrounded by the sea. The Lighthouse block is all paper foundation pieced. It has a few funky angles that were well suited to paper piecing. I attached each side by pinning and sewing to the angle in two separate seams. I approached the top in the same way. Then I attached the sandy strip to the bottom to complete the block. All the blocks for the Home by the Sea quilt are finished. Ok, I am now officially multi-tasking again (in quilting terms). I can't even pretend I don't know how it happened (one tiny project at a time), but I'll go with the flow again for a bit. The lighthouses are still my main preoccupation though, and no. 3 is done. A bit shorter and fatter than the first two, but I'm not too bothered about getting them all the same size. Next up I'm going to try a much shorter one. I am consistently torn with these: I can see it would be easy to finish them…
