Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:04, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Dear Commons user,
We noticed you adopted . Thanks for your work in the field of Monuments Historiques français ! In case you did not know about it, we invite you to take a look at the Projet Monuments Historiques français. We hope to see you soon ! — Jean-Fred (talk) 12:56, 29 December 2009 (UTC) |
Tall ships
[edit]I don't agree with your placing of categories related to historical sailing ships into the category tall ships by type. Please see Category talk:Tall ships for a discussion on the matter. This category is only useful for actual tall ships that have participated in Tall Ships' Races. It's quite irrelevant to Mary Rose and the likes.

- OK; the idea was only to group Carrack (ship) and Carracks. I assume Galleons and Caravel should be removed too? M-le-mot-dit (talk) 16:44, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I see the point of keeping any ship types at all in that category. After all, it's really only a specific type of event with little relevance to anything else. How would it actually help users?
