Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:40, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

File:GoodNites_for_Girls.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Flickr reviewing
Hello Fetchcomms, and thank you for your application to be a flickr reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. Congratulations! Please see Commons:Flickr images if you haven't done so already, and the backlogs at Category:Flickr images needing human review and Category:Flickr review needed. A helpful script for easy-tagging flickr images is at importScript('User:Patstuart/Flickrreview.js'); (which you can add to your monobook.js), and you can add User reviewer or User trusted to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your work on Commons! Pmlineditor discuss 08:01, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Wilhelmsstift
Hi, I reverted your edits at Category:Wilhelmsstift, Wilhelmsstift and Wilhelmsstift Tübingen, because I had the feeling, you didn't understand the system I used. The Info-namspace is experimental(?), but should contain pages which contain informations which need to be included at two or more other pages. I used the same system at Mössingen and Kusterdingen, so that you don't have to change the category AND the gallery-page, if you want to modify the main informations or the interwiki-links. If you don't agree with my system I'd like to come to a consent first, before we do further edits. By the way, I changed everything back, but Wilhelmsstift remains still a subcategory of itself. :( --UnreifeKirsche (talk) 09:16, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't realize that was a real namespace. Now that I know what it is, I think that it's a fine idea, so no worries. Thanks for telling me, fetchcomms☛ 14:56, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- No problem :) I already thought it would be something like this. --UnreifeKirsche (talk) 15:05, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
I reverted your edition on this file because there are simple logos that don't fall under the threshold of originality. Making them allowed on Commons. You can learn more about it here and here. Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 03:16, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- Very well, I didn't realize the shapes design was considered simple enough. Thanks for the note, fetchcomms☛ 03:28, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
That's ok. I didn't konw that too. I'm always learning here. And this issue most times is quite complicated. Because the conception of original works differs from each user and even place. Best regards Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 00:58, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Correct, the original copyright holder is Leda Luss Luyken; I am her spouse, Dr. Georg Michael Luyken; I am the manager of LLLarts, the studio and management bureau of Leda Luss Luyken. I am authorised to up-load the pictures and have the consent of Leda Luss Luyken to so. Is that OK? --DrGML (talk) 09:07, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you must have Leda Luss Luyken send an email to our OTRS team verifying the consent of permission. In this email, she must specifically mention which copyright license it is released under. (I suggest the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0.) Also, please have the email give the file names ("File:The Couple 1.JPG", etc.) of the ones you uploaded so we can attach a permission verified note when done. The email address is: permissions-commonswikimedia.org . Hopefully this process will not take more than a few days, but this depends on the internal circumstances, etc. Thank you, fetchcomms☛ 09:58, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Response to deletion suggestion: "Robert Adams (Advaita teacher)" jpeg
Dear Fetchcomms, I understand that you wish to delete the "Robert Adams (Advaita teacher)" jpeg I uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I used that copyright tag because it said "has never been published before 2003." I aplogize, as I assumed that this was one of the criteria applicable in that case. Would it be admissible to get the permission of the person who created that image to confirm that it is open for copying? Thanks, pakalu Pakalu (talk) 13:25, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Please inform how to email permission from image's original author
Sorry, one more note: I have spoken (in person and by email) to the author of that image, "Robert Adams (Advaita teacher)". So what I meant was, I can definitely get him to authorize its release. Please direct me in how to do so. Thanks, Pakalu Pakalu (talk) 13:26, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Response to proposed deletion of Robert Adams (Advaita teacher) audio files
Dear Fetchcomms, The same goes for audio file File:Robert_adams_clip_1_-_you_are_like_a_gigantic_screen.ogg and audio file File:Robert adams clip 2 - now what does this have to do with you.ogg... I hoped that the applicable criterion was that they had not been published before 2003.
I am in contact with the person who originally recorded these audio files, and can have him email you permission for their inclusion. I would greatly appreciate your advice on how to expedite that process. Thank you, Pakalu Pakalu (talk) 13:28, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Creator of 3 files proposed for deletion should be emailing you soon with copyright permission
Dear Fetchcomms, Thanks for your email... I have contacted and emailed the creator of the three files nominated for deletion:
File:Robert Adams - Los Angeles - early 1990s.jpg
File:Robert adams clip 1 - you are like a gigantic screen.ogg
File:Robert adams clip 2 - now what does this have to do with you.ogg
He has already consented to email his permission, and I shared with him your recommendation for the Sharealike 3.0 license, in fact I forwarded him your complete email. (Hope that's okay.) I hope you'll be hearing from him soon.
Finally, I also added the code for OTRS pending in brackets at the top of each file's edit window, so I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks again for your help, Pakalu (Matthew) Pakalu (talk) 20:42, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:42, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

File tagging File:Creeperk.jpg
This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Creeperk.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Creeperk.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

De minimis
Hey Fetchcomms, I see that you have put up a bunch of Ipod touch images up for deletion. I am curious though, should all of these be put up for deletion? - Theornamentalist (talk) 12:14, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've nominated a few for deletion. If the screen shows copyrighted elements/software that are central to the image (not a minor part), then they do not fall under de minimis and the images can be deleted. Just a picture of the console itself, with a blank screen, is OK. fetchcomms☛ 22:19, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Let me know if there are images that I can blank the screens for ;). ZooFari 23:08, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- See my last few DRs. However, some of them rely on the screen as an integral part of the image, and if they're orphaned (likely replaced by fair use pics on local wikis), then I wouldn't bother. I think all the iPod images have been replaced by fair use images with the screen on enwiki at least. fetchcomms☛ 23:17, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Is the subject the console or the program shown in the screen? If just the console, that sounds like a fair-use violation if I remember correctly (free version can be replaced). Otherwise you're correct, removing the screen would be worthless. ZooFari 23:47, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- I see, learn something new every day. - Theornamentalist (talk) 23:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- So the Ipod touch in this article could have the screen blanked in order to be kept for the article? I'm sure that someone could take a picture of an Itouch with a blank screen to replace these, whichever is easier. - Theornamentalist (talk) 23:52, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

- Let me rephrase above. We can keep the images you have nominated if we remove the screen. If Wikipedias do not like them and rather use a supposedly fair use image, then they will be violating the fair use rational if the intent of the image is to illustrate the console. I suggest we remove the screen and let the other projects decide for themselves if they want to replace the images and violate the rational. ZooFari 23:56, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- @Theornamentalist: If image is used to illustrate what's being shown on the screen, the image can be under fair use. If the image is used to illustrate the console itself, then the image needs to have the screen blanked. Take the second image of that article as an example, the Atari Lynx. That image is used to illustrate the console only, so the screen should be blanked. Fetchcomms suggests that people won't like that and would rather reupload the image as fair use. If that is done and the image continues to illustrate the console only, that would violate the fair use rational (because free version exist, one with the screen blanked.). That, however, won't affect Commons and Wikipedias should handle those issues themselves. ZooFari 00:14, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- The local images used under fair use include the screen and I think a recentish discussion ended up with the using those images under fair use even though the main subject is the iPod itself is still OK, as the screen and software shown has something to do with maintaining the identity or whatnot. But no, we don't use fair use images of a console itself. Free ones with blanked screens work fine. fetchcomms☛ 02:34, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

You're now a filemover
Hi Fetchcomms/Archive 1, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one.
- Please do not tag redirects as Speedy. Other projects, like InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
- For guideline when to rename a file, please see Commons:File renaming and Commons:File naming.

Licence for Marina-bay-at_night_singapore-May_1_2009.jpg
Hi, today you requested a licence for the picture Marina-bay-at night singapore-May 1 2009.jpg from me. As you can see on the description page I'm not the author - it's User:WolfgangSladkowski. I just uploaded a modified version of the file. The source which is given there ([1]) is the homepage of this User:WolfgangSladkowski. Therefore I don't see the necessity to get a permission of him... his photo, his webpage-source. Hence I think you should remove the request. --RoB (talk) 07:27, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
