Description
English: Zion Episcopal Church in Douglaston, Borough of Queens, New York City. This monument, inscribed "Here rest the last of the Matinecoc" and located in the northeast corner of the church's cemetery, remembers the Native American people who once inhabited this part of Long Island. When Northern Blvd. was widened in the 1930s, workers discovered Native American remains, which were moved to the church yard and placed near this stone split by a tree, an ancient symbol of the Matinecoc people. Part of the Douglaston Hill Historic District.
