Summary
[edit]DescriptionWild Garden of the Gut Bacteria.jpg |
English: This set of works depicts the ecosystem of gut bacteria which help keep us healthy. It is created using gut bacteria, grown on color-changing agar in striking, organic patterns to suggest that bacteria, rather than 'good' or 'bad', should be viewed like the plants around us, where diversity, and balance is key to health. They are created with the aim of challenging the idea that a sterile world is desirable, and instead note that a flourishing bacterial community in the gut is beautiful. Antibiotics-containing discs are also used, to remind us that unnecessary antibiotic use can disrupt and destroy this delicate balance. These images represent the fusion of science and artistic techniques to communicate this concept of ecology and diversity.
