Although NARA identifies Jackson as the photographer, the Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-century Photography by John Hannavy[1] names the photographer as William Abraham Bell. The date of the photograph is 1867, which is consistent with the timing of Bell's involvement in a western expedition, whereas Jackson did not begin work until 1869.
