Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Lady of the Grange - Charles Green.png |
English: Wood engraving illustration to the poem "The Lady of the Grange" by W. Green. Once a Week magazine, volume 10, page 141. Depicts an 18th-century wedding. The bride is walking on the arm of her groom while in front of them girls throw flower petals. The groom has glanced up in surprise at something outside the picture frame. The poem tells us this is a sinister man who summons the groom away, never to be seen again. The faces of the wedding guests, frowning rather than glad, contribute an ominous atmosphere to the picture. |
