Description

1937:Taos, New Mexico. After visiting the mission, Dad wrote in his diary for August 9, 1937:

"We stopped to take pictures. Donald snapped a picture of a little Indian girl who had come up to watch us. "Gimme penny, gimme penny", she lisped. I handed her one. And straightway, other youngsters began to flock toward us as if drawn by a magnet. "Gimme penny" was their universal language. I gave up and beat a retreat."
