Summary
[edit]DescriptionSilverbrook Mills, Donemana - geograph.org.uk - 64078.jpg |
English: Silverbrook Mills, Donemana. It is a Industrial Heritage Visitor Attraction; the buildings shown being the Corn Mill and the Millers Cottage. The Silverbrook Mills complex nestles at the entrance to a wooded gorge of the Dennett River, surrounded by oaks, birch, ash and an abundance of wild flowers including bluebells and primrose; surely a magical place. The Mills complex contains three working mills; corn, flax (scotching) and a saw mill. These mills are driven by two water wheels which draw water from the River Dennett through a series of "Mill Races" almost three-quarters of a mile in length. There has been a Mill at Silverbrook since 1700's and probably earlier, grinding corn for tenant farmers of the district. Silverbrook is unique in being the only example of the three mills on one complex that we know of in Ireland. |
