English: Persian Gulf (January 10, 2008) An F/A-18 Hornet launches off the flight deck as the "Shooter" LCDR Beau Massenburg gives the signal for it to launch during flight operations onboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). Truman and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 are underway on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment and complements the counter-terrorism and security efforts in regional nations' littoral waters. Coalition forces also conduct MSO under international maritime conventions to ensure security and safety in international waters so that commercial shipping and fishing can occur safely in the region.
