Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sciurus niger (fox squirrel) This appears to be a female. I wish it was a better picture. I posted it because I thought the fact that she was apparently pregnant might be of interest. The location is in Fullerton, CA, USA. The fox squirrels have naturalized into the area. We first started seeming them five years ago or so. They are now very common. Previously the only squirrels that I recall seeing in the area were the California ground squirrels. I have seen it reported that fox squirrels are displacing gray squirrels. I am not sure there were gray squirrels to displace near us but I am a very non-expert observer.

Unfortunately the photo does not portray the colors well because it was taken in the shade. The squirrel was quite brown and it had a large bushy tail that was also quite brown.
