Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Latpho Canal is situated in Song Khanong subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng district, Samut Prakan. In the past, this canal was quite shallow. Later, it was developed under a project initiated by His majesty the King to resolve flooding in Bangkok through a principle of “Diversion”. Khlong Latpho flood gate also has potential for hydroelectricity. Recently, The Royal Irrigation Department, in collaboration with Kasetsart University, has invented a prototype of turbine power based on water with full capacity of 5.4 kW per day. The perfect spot for the panoramic view of the flood gate and the spectacular criss-cross pattern of the two bridges is on Petchaheung Road. His Majesty the King named these two bridges “Bhumibol”, one that across the northern part of the Chao Praya River is called “Bhumibol Bridge 1” and the other across the southern part of the Chao Praya River is called “Bhumibol Bridge 2”. Under the bridges, there is a recreation ground “Lat Pho Park”. Also, there is a plan to construct an industrial ring road museum at the central area to display Royal development projects, history and culture of the ethic Mon (the main population in Phra Pradaeng district), and construction work of the ring road.
