Description |
English: On 6 September 1855, the Prince of Fizen, the Japanese landowner of Hizen, visited the Gedeh, a vessel belonging to the Dutch Navy, in Nagasaki. Gerhardus Fabius (1806-1888) was her commander at the time. The man at the far left is Johan Maurits Count Van Lynden, an adjutant of the Dutch King. The three men in the middle are officers; they show the landowner the saloon where Fabius will meet him. The landowner of Hizen immediately wanted to buy the Gedeh, but Fabius was, of course, unable to consider such a proposal. But the Prince was not to be put off and placed an order for a propeller corvette with Fabius. |
