English: Mirror case, original in wood, gold, semi-precious stones and glass, h. 26.8 cm. The mirror case found in Tutankhamun's tomb takes the form of the god Heh. His attributes are palm ribs to count the years on in notches and hieroglyphs for the number 100.000 (a tadpole) and eternity (a 'shen' ring), promising Tutankhamun endless years of rule. On his head Heh bears a disk embellished with the name of the King.
Make-up box, original in wood, gold, semi-precious stones and glass, h. 27 cm. The box is in the form of an ankh sign, signifying 'life'.Since 'ankh' is also the Egyptian word for mirror, the design is very apposite both in form and meaning. Only the inside of the lid has a mirror firmly attached to it. The base, by contrast, was divided into different compartments for eye make-up and other cosmetics. Español: Funda para espejo, original en madera, oro, piedras semipreciosas y vidrio, alt. 26,8 cm. Se encontró en la tumba esta funda de espejo con la forma del dios Heh. Sus atributos, hojas de palmera cuyas hojuelas o foliolos sirven para contar los años, y jeroglíficos con el número 100 000 (un renacuajo) y la Eternidad (un anillo shen) auguran a Tutankhamón un reinado sin fin. Heh lleva en la cabeza un disco decorado con el nombre del Rey. Estuche de maquillaje con espejo, original en madera, oro, piedras semipreciosas y vidrio, alt. 27 cm. El estuche de maquillaje tiene la forma del signo anj, que significa vida. Dado que «anj» también significaba espejo, el diseño es muy apropiado tanto en su forma como en su sentido. El espejo estaba firmemente sujeto al interior de la tapa. La base del estuche estaba dividida en diferentes compartimentos para el maquillaje de ojos y otros cosméticos. |
