Description
English: The photo is dated at lower left: 12-04-1901.

The view is north in Longacre (now Times) Square in Manhattan, over an excavation for the subway, which when completed would cross the site from Broadway to Seventh Avenue. The camera is near the back wall of the Pabst Hotel. In 1905, the New York Times Building opened on the site.

Upper left, the Barrington Apartments, a coöperative residence comprising eight buildings from 43rd Street to 44th Street on the west side of Seventh Avenue

Upper right, the former Hammerstein's Olympia (with cupolas), after its foreclosure auction and reöpening as the separate New York and Criterion theaters
