Goldcliff Pill

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Goldcliff Pill. This is the one of the two main channels which drain the Goldcliff and Whitson's reens into the sea. The smaller Easterly channel enters through a sluice behind The Grove and is fed by Chapel Lane Reen. The larger Westerly channel enters through a sluice at The Gout is fed by Goldcliff Pill proper after passing Goldcliff Common and the top of Clifton Common. Also known as The Monksditch, The Pill has its origin several miles away at Llanwern. Local legend holds that the banks of the Pill are laced with smugglers' brandy.
