Summary
[edit]DescriptionGlyn Ceiriog - geograph.org.uk - 226785.jpg |
English: Glyn Ceiriog. This is at the heart of the picturesque Ceiriog valley. This area was home to three notable Welsh poets - John Ceiriog Hughes, Huw Morus and Rev. Robert Ellis. The valley was described by LLoyd George as "A little bit of heaven on Earth" and it has often been called "little Switzerland". This may be due to the quaint buildings, the log fires and steeply sloping woods. There used to be a tramway which hauled the slate from the mines to the canal wharf at Chirk.
In 1923, a proposal was defeated which would have flooded the valley to make a reservoir. |
