Fresco of a Nihang Sikh holding a gutka manuscript

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Fresco of a Nihang Sikh holding a gutka manuscript. The Gurmukhi inscription reads: ॥ਸਹੀਦੀਸਿੰਘਜੀ meaning "Shaheed Singh Ji" (martyred Sikh). (Note: 'gutka' is a Punjabi term that refers to a smaller extract of gurbani [compositions attributed to the Sikh Gurus, Bhagats, and others] in-comparison to a pothi, which is a larger extraction, but both are smaller than an entire Granth [complete volume or corpus]). This mural is located in the dilapidated haveli of Khem Singh Bedi located in Kallar Syedan, east-central Rawalpindi district, Punjab, Pakistan. The Nihang is wearing a gati over his upper body and other ornaments, the hilt of his sword is gold plated. Another image of this artwork can be viewed at: [1] and [2]
