Deutsch: Bildsynthese eines Polyeders: links mit Flat Shading, rechts mit Gouraud Shading gerendert, damit er mehr wie eine Kugel aussieht.
Eine perfekte rumdum runde Kugel ließe sich mit sehr viel weniger Parametern beschreiben: Mittelpunkt + Radius. Stattdessen benutzt man aber einen Polyeder und lässt diesen mit Hilfe von Gouraud Shading wie eine Kugel aussehen.

Die Beschreibung des Polyeders liegt als Drahtgittermodell seiner Oberfläche vor. Die Vertices (Eckpunkte, Knoten)) sind im vorliegenden Drahtgittermodell zu Dreiecken verbunden, andere Modelle verbinden die Vertices jeweils zu Vierecken. Berechnungen werden entweder auf Vertices angewandt, oder aber auf die einzelnen Flächen, die diese jeweils aufspannen. Dieses Methode wird nicht nur in der Bildsynthese angewandt, sondern z.B. auch bei Numerischen Simulationen (FEM).
