Image title | U.S. female Airmen and Soldiers assigned to the Laghman Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) host an afternoon tea on Weds., Sept. 5, 2007, for influential Afghan women living throughout Afghanistan's Laghman province. The tea is being held on forward operating base (FOB) Mehtar Lam located near the province's capital city of Mehtar Lam. The PRT's public affairs and information officer Air Force Capt. Heather Kekic, who is deployed from Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, explained that hosting the tea provides an opportunity to educate the the Afghan women on various humanitarian and security programs in place for them and their communities. The Afghan women are very influential in their communities. Talking to them is a very powerful way to get information spread throughout the province. "They are very concerned about security within the province, said Captain Kekic. " They are just like us in that they want their roads to be free of bombs. They do not want their families hurt or killed by the violence." (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Julie Weckerlein)(released) |
