Bahasa Indonesia: Merak Hijau jantan sedang mengembangkan bulu-bulu ekornya yang indah. Merak hijau atau Pavo muticus muticus merupakan jenis burung endemik pulau Jawa dengan ciri khas memiliki bulu-bulu berwarna hijau keemasan yang indah. Burung ini mempunyai jambul tegak yang berada di atas kepalanya. Burung ini relatif berukuran besar, namun pandai terbang. Sejak awal abad 20, populasi merak hijau mengalami penurunan drastis akibat pengurangan luas habitat dan perburuan yang menyebabkan kepunahan lokal di beberapa area. Di Jawa, merak hijau masih bisa ditemukan di Taman Nasional Baluran, Situbondo, Jawa Timur. Meskipun demikian populasi yang dapat ditemukan sangat terbatas.
English: The Male Green Peacock is developing his beautiful tail feathers. The green peacock or Pavo muticus is a type of bird endemic to the island of Java with the characteristic of having beautiful golden green feathers. This bird has an upright crest that is above its head. This bird is relatively large, but good at flying. Since the early 20th century, the green peacock population has decreased dramatically due to extensive withdrawal of habitat and hunting which has caused local extinctions in some areas. In Java, the green peacock can still be found in Baluran National Park, Situbondo, East Java. However, the population that can be found is very limited. |
