Photo exhibition featuring portraits of people with Down syndrome

Summary

[edit]
Description

English: Photo exhibition People with Down syndrome

Shown were 30 portraits (in the format 60 x 60 cm) of children, adolescents and young adults with Down syndrome, photographed by Andreas Bohnenstengel. The photographs were supplemented by questionnaires, which were answered by the participants themselves.

To portraits, quotes, descriptions, explanations and pictorial material have been set since the initial description by Dr. Langdon-Down. The topics were medical descriptions 1876-1934- 1957-1995, lexicons, medical lexicons, schoolbooks, 3rd Reich, euthanasia as well as contemporary representations.

The intention of this exhibition was to stimulate the viewer to think how the ideas that are nowadays of people with Down syndrome have emerged historically. This is to be compared with the very individual, impressive portraits and the information and evidence, from today's time.
