There are four principal piers, fiveminor piers, and two sets of pedestals onthe north bank. Elevations for the bridge are referred tothe U. S. Engineers datum at Slaughterbar on Columbia River. Mean low wateris at plus 2 feet with a main channel depthof 37 feet; the highwater elevation is plus27 feet. The river-bed elevation ranges fromminus 30 to minus 35 feet. Pier foundationsare in a gravel and boulder stratum whichslopes regularly from minus 25 feet underpier 7, near the Rainier side, to minus 84feet under pier 1 on the Longview side.
