Description
English: live Oxymeris maculata (synonyms : Terebra maculata, Acus maculatus)

Supposedly common, in my ten years in Hawaii this is the first live http://www.marinelifephotography.com/marine/mollusks/gastropods/augers/augers.htm auger shell I have seen. I caught a glimpse of it, barely exposed above the sand, in the receding shore break.

After snapping the photo, I carefully replaced this little gastropod in the sand at the water's edge.

I think it is a Terebra maculata, based on photos I could find online.
