Description
Deutsch: Eine Produktionsstätte für Glasfasern in der belgischen Stadt Battice nahe Lüttich: das Werk wurde im Jahr 1966 errichtet. Rechts von dem Bild schließen sich noch einige niedrigere Gebäude an, die hier auf dem Bild aber nicht zu sehen sind. Der Firmenname ist 3B Fibreglass, das B steht für die drei wichtigen Unternehmens-Standorte Battice (Belgien), Birkeland (Norwegen) und Brüssel (Firmensitz).

In der Fabrik wird Sand bei Temperaturen von rund 1600 °C geschmolzen und zu Glasfasern verarbeitet. Die Arbeiten finden rund um die Uhr im drei-Schichten-Betrieb statt. Die Glasfasern dienen vor allem der Verstärkung von Verbundwerkstoffen (z. B. mit Polymeren). Ein bedeutender Abnehmer ist die Windkraftindustrie.

Im Jahr 2016 arbeiteten über 400 Personen in der Fabrik sowie weitere 76 Personen in der Forschung, in einem eigenen Gebäude in der Stadt Battice.
