| Description |
A 5 night trip around France in the late autumn of 2022 primarily to cover some lengthy sections of High Speed Lines and a few regional branches that had reopened in the last decade or so. Trips to France are no longer as numerous as they were three decades before when I would regularly make a week or so long visit most summers. Like everywhere else, numerous changes have been made especially with regional services with newer trains. SNCF were the first European railway to make major steps to go for bimodal units seeing as network is a mix of electrified lines and many secondary routes that will never justify electrification. Having arrived into Gare-du-Nord in Paris on Eurostar from London one of the many bimode units assigned to the Hauts-de-France (a merge of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardie in 2014). The Paris to Boulogne (and days gone by through to Calais) route was mainline Corail stock and for many years classified as Intercité. With most of the route now all being in the once region, it made sense to hand the route over and reclassify it as TER.
