Summary
[edit]Description1835 Barker Family Log Cabin.jpg |
English: The 1835 Barker Family log was built as the first homestead for the Barker family in Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana in 1835. The property is now part of the City of Westfield, Indiana. It was used for the Barker family and their 9 children and was an extra large log cabin with fine interiors and upstairs loft. When the Barker family built their frame home, this old home became storage and was later incorporated into a larger barn. There it stood, used for storage inside the barn, without roof, but protected from the larger barn roof. When developers were getting ready to tear it all down, Diana Peyton, President of the Westfield Washington Historical Society & Museum started a multi-year effort to safe, secure and rebuilt the log cabin at 136 Penn Street in Westfield, Indiana where it sits now. |
