Description
English: An incomplete handle from a medieval or post medieval German saltglazed vessel. The handle broadly rectangular in plan, with one end that flares out slightly. Both ends are broken. The handle is is concave in profile. Ridges run down the handle, which are particularly pronounced on the front.

The fabric is fine and cream coloured with sparse coarse rounded inclusions which are black in colour. The exterior is partially covered with brown slatglaze, and there is also some green biological growth on the surface, particularly the reverse.

The handle is 85.8mm long, 42.6mm wide, and 22.1mm thick. It has a mass of 94.2g. Deborah Klemperer of the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery comments that this vessel handle dates from circa the 15th century to the 16th century.
