The Romanesque Art was the style of creative artworks in Europe in the time ca. 950 A.D. to ca. in the 1230s A.D.. But the Romanesque art is no unique art style, rather it consists of regional and chronological very different art styles. Chronological one is distinguishing

a) Early Romanesque: 10th century - ca. 1070 A.D.

b) High Romanesque: ca. 1070 A.D. - ca. 1150 A.D.

c) Late Romanesque: ca. 1150 A.D. - 1230s A.D.

Regionally, one is distinguishing different Romanesque art styles in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, British Islands, and Scandinavia, mostly depending on captures in areas of the former Roman Empire.

The art of this period has their beginnings in the Christian monastic communities and was characterised by a vigorous style in all areas of creative expression forms. Defining for the Romaneque art were mainly (among others) round arches in the architecture, halos in paintings and lines in sculpting. Increasingly appeared also a certain diversity of forms which is continuing in the Gothic. The so-called "Neo Romanesque" was a style of the Historism of the 19th century.
