Mandi is a city in Himachal Pradesh on the banks of river Beas. It has at least 1,400 year history and served as a capital, with numerous temples on the river ghats. A stop for Hindu pilgrims, it is also called the Chhoti Kashi. Some of the most important historic temples in Mandi include the Triloknath temple, the Panch Vaktra temple, the Ardhanareshwar temple, the Baba Bhutanatha temple, the Mrityunjaya temple, the Neelkantha Mahadeva temple, the Maha Kaleshwar temple, the Jalpa Devi temple, the Siddha Bhadra temple, the Shyama & Siddha Kali temples, the Batuka Bhairav temple, the Sahibini Dvala temple, the Siddha Ganapati temple, the Ramachandra temple, and the Jagannatha temple.
Mandi is one of the cultural and trade hubs in the Himalayas, one that grew because of its convenient location on the silk route that connected Tibet with India. In modern times, Mandi has emerged as a major education and industrial center in the northern Himalayan region.
