Edwenease (also Adwinase, Ajinase or similar spellings) is a village in the contemporary Ejisu-Juaben Municipal District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The village is located in a distance of ca. 8 km from the district capital Ejisu (hist. Edweso) in the traditional area of the Kingdom of Akim-Abuakwa. The village was founded to the begin of the 19th century by Opanin Kwaku Yawo (= Kwaku Yaw the Elder) who was coming from the neighbouring Abease. The name "Edwenease" means “unter the Edwono tree” and is derivated from “Edwono”, the native name for the species Baphia nitida (English: camwood, also: African sandalwood, a very big hardwood tree). The suffix “-ase” means in this concerning “under”. At this village is located an famous old temple for the Akan God “Atuo” (= “Atuo Kosua shrine").
