editI've reverted your speedy deletion tagging of Image:A11vsFootball.gif. This is a public domain image from NASA, as clearly indicated. Thanks, Jfire (talk) 20:07, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Don't you think something like

PD-CAGov resurrection
editHi. Do you think I'm getting ahead of myself in resurrecting PD-CAGov with the text I've put in it? I'd appreciate any feedback you have at CA works' status. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elvey (talk • contribs) 12:29, 23 October 2009 (URC) (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:55, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Re:Declined renaming requests
edit[Moved from User talk:Catherine Laurence to keep conversation in one place] Can you explain why you have declined renaming for the following files?
- File:Man in a window at Julliard (16391633637).jpg
- File:SRNS Brings Julliard to Allendale Middle School (9135392309).jpg
- File:SRNS Brings Julliard to Allendale Middle School (9135399755).jpg
- File:SRNS Brings Julliard to Allendale Middle School (9137615338).jpg
- File:The Julliard School (15863431955).jpg
In each of these, the "Julliard" (sic) in the filename is a misspelled reference to the Juilliard School, the performing arts conservatory in New York. Your stated reason was "does not comply with renaming guidelines", but the Commons:File renaming clearly lists as a cat-3 reason "misspelled proper nouns", which is clearly applicable here. Is there a reason you want to maintain the misspelling? TJRC (talk) 20:14, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, TJRC. Both the description of the picture and the title of the source are described as Julliard. I can't tell if the file name is a problem. Sorry, I will help you move the file if you can provide some evidence to support it. Regards. --Catherine Laurence 23:50, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- Evidence that the correct spelling of "Juilliard" in "Juilliard School" is "Juilliard" and not "Julliard"? See w:Juilliard School and [1]. TJRC (talk) 23:58, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- It's my fault. I have never heard of the name of this school, and the source and picture descriptions have given me a lot of hints that made me mistakenly think that this file name is not wrong. I hope you can understand this move and ask you to re-attach the Rename template to make it easier for me to move. Thank you very much! --Catherine Laurence 00:07, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
- Done! Thanks. TJRC (talk) 00:12, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Move of category
editI removed the Category:Musicians from Azerbaijan and added it to Category:Ella Leya. In my opinion is that the best place. Wouter (talk) 07:33, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
