Thanks for uploading File:Marty Small Sr.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

- @Mike1901: Hello, the upload was deleted so fast I couldn't even give my argument lol.
I am pretty confused why the image was deleted since I saw the CC license in the video description, I always filter on Youtube to only get CC videos for screenshots i upload here on Commons. ThinkTech Hawaii releases almost all their videos under a CC license and I have uploaded many other screenshots from their channel before without any complaints. I'm pretty sure there was an oversight on this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm7hFf_z-ow Putitonamap98 (talk) 14:32, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Please stop reverting improvements
editCommons is not meant to be your personal file host. Continuing to revert at pages like File:2022 United States Senate Democratic primary election in Georgia results map by county.svg is unhelpful. Elli (talk) 15:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- You've done a further revert at File:2022 United States Senate Republican primary election in Kentucky results map by county.svg after I've left you this talkpage message without engaging with it. I'd appreciate if you could work with others here in a more collaborative way. Elli (talk) 20:41, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'd appreciate it if you would respect the work that I made and not over write it with yours. You can always upload your own version elsewhere, thank you. Putitonamap98 (talk) 21:37, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- I appreciate the work that you do, but am frustrated by your refusal to work with other editors here in a collaborative manner. Again, you do not own the files, and Commons is not meant to be a personal file hosting site. You don't give any reason for your reverts other than that you prefer the maps the way you made them -- with no basis for that preference. That's not helpful at all for consensus building. Elli (talk) 01:47, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- If you really appreciate my work then please stop replacing them with your preferred style and calling them better than mine. Putitonamap98 (talk) 02:20, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- They are, though? All the maps use a standard projection that scales well and correctly shows details in county shapes. There's also a standardized set of colors we use for the maps. You could make your maps in that style as well and save us all time and effort. Elli (talk) 03:14, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- Bro it's literally just filling in colors. I appreciate the work you've done but at the end of the day these files are not your children. Using maps with better shapes and more distinguishable colors isn't undoing anything, it's just improving. The whole idea of Wikipedia is a communal space where anyone can edit, not for you to get protective of your maps. The reverts also mess up the map legends on a lot of these articles. MisterWat3rm3l0n (talk) 03:09, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- The same way you can make improvements AND reverts on Rhode Island maps and Connecticut maps to have standardized colors, there isn't anything wrong with me doing the same MisterWat3rm3l0n (talk) 03:33, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- The main problem I have with the new maps are that they are so damn hard to edit compared to the original ones. It was easier to just drag and select all counties to change the colors alot faster but with new map i have to click on each individual shape and it takes forever. forget this i'm sticking with the old map until someone fixes this. - @BottleOfChocolateMilk I wouldn't go as far as to put a 7 day deletion template and would instead just put a simple deletion nomination template so others users can discuss and have the time to look into it so we can be absolutely sure weather or not it is the uploader's work which it very well could, we have to be careful with this, especially since the file has been on Commons for over a decade. Don't overwrite someone else's photo with a radical crop
editIf you want to upload a radically cropped version of File:Randy Revelle 01.jpg, give it a different filename. I've reverted you. It's not a bad crop, but it makes for a radically different photo. I can't think of a circumstance where a radical crop and overwrite of someone else's photo without their consent is OK. - Jmabel ! talk 04:16, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

- @Gordfather69 i can't block him because i am not admin sadly but I know one way to slow him down, i have been making identical maps and have kept reverting back and forth to try to push the old shape maps further down the list that way he can't just hit the first revert option every time lol. it's a good way to mess with him and might eventually discourage him from continuing. see this page for example https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arizona_Presidential_Election_Results_1984.svg
- just keep clicking the first revert and change it back to the other identical one and just keep doing this until you can push the old file really far down the list Putitonamap98 (talk) 21:42, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah that's a good idea, for some reason some of the files won't let me revert back, maybe wikipedia is just overwhelmed. I'm honestly at a loss, why is this guy greifing so much. Do you think he hates the new shapefile style that much? Gordfather69 (talk) 01:52, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Cropping photos
editWhen you crop an image by doing literally anything besides getting rid of borders/watermarks/etc please upload a new file instead of overwriting the original. 2022 Tennessee Gubernatorial election map
editHi Putitonamap98, I wanted to ask if you could update a couple of the counties on the 2022 Tennessee gubernatorial map now that the official results have been released? Knox County is shaded for a Republican win of 60-70%, although Republican Gov. Bill Lee only won 59.95% of the vote there. Hamilton County is shaded for a Republican win of 50-60%, although Gov. Lee won 60.02% of the vote there. I do not mean to nitpick, and I think this is an excellent representation of the county boundaries in Tennessee. I would appreciate it if you could make this update. Thanks! Count Awesome (talk) 02:42, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Count Awesome Sure I can do that soon no problem. Have you downloaded Inkscape and tried it out yet? I can give you instructions on how to change the map colors it's easy. We could really use some extra help converting the old map shapes into the new standardized shapes Putitonamap98 (talk) 04:30, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Missouri 2004 Presidential Election Map
editSt. Genevieve County should be blue for Kerry (it is showing red for Bush). Please correct it. Thank you! 2600:100A:B031:80EF:691A:E125:7A46:AF7C 19:30, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Wisconsin 1998 Senate Map
editHi! I see you made the current version of the 1998 Wisconsin senate map (left). I noticed that the map didn't account for the border changes between Jackson and Monroe counties that went into effect in 2000, so I went ahead and made a new version (right), which uses the old borders that were in effect at the time. Do you think this is a useful edit, or is it too tiny? And did I do it correctly or did I mess something up somehow?
This is my first ever map, so I wanted to run it by someone experienced.
P.S. Also I have Florence county in red instead of blue. My copy of the Wisconsin Blue Book has Neumann getting 884 votes out of 1584 cast, 56%.
P.P.S. Back before you uploaded your new version in December, the file was tagged with Category:Set maps not using the standardized SVG county maps of US states. But you based your map on the standardized SVG map so that tag can be removed, right?
Thanks, WallAdhesion (talk) 19:08, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @WallAdhesion Thank you, i actually never noticed. Hey if you are good with editing borders and making accurate shapes, would you mind editing these maps of Colorado and Virginia. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Virginia_county_map,_cb_500k.svg
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Colorado_county_map,_cb_500k.svg
- For Virginia I need a pre 2013 map with the Independent city of Bedford city and for Colorado I need a pre 2000 map before Broomfield county was included. Thanks! Putitonamap98 (talk) 01:06, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- The Colorado map was pretty straightforward (though please give it a once-over before using). The Virginia map looks harder, since I'd be creating a county instead of destroying one. I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge, but I'll give it a shot and report back. WallAdhesion (talk) 03:26, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, here's my attempt at Virginia. This one I'm even less confident about, so in a minute I'm going to ask on Awmcphee's page if he can look over the job I did. Seems like he's taking a break at the moment but hopefully he sees it at some point.
- Regarding the Wisconsin map that started this conversation, it sounds like it's okay if I use my version. I plan to update links to point to my version on the relevant Wikipedia pages. But if I should be uploading mine as a new version of the old file instead or merging the files or something, let me know.
- All the best, WallAdhesion (talk) 17:16, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Colorado and Massachusetts Maps
editI saw you made a couple of maps using the pre-Broomfield Colorado map I made. It's nice to see it get put to good use. On Awmcphee's talk page you had also asked for an older Colorado map, so I made one of those too (though I'm realizing as I type this what I made isn't quite what you wanted, since you were looking to remap the 1976 presidential election).
Also, I saw you've been updating Massachusetts maps. In 1947 there was a pretty small change between Essex and Middlesex. I'm not certain it's worth update older maps to account for it, but I made a map in case that's something you are interested in doing. While I was at it I made a pre 1938 map too, just for fun. That one's a bigger change so the existing senate maps from the period should get updated to use it — if you don't feel like doing that I'll probably do it myself either next weekend or the one after.
If you have any other requests, let me know (either ping me here or post on my talk page) and I'll do my best. After this post I'll stop cluttering your talk page with maps you didn't ask for. But I'll start using Category:Historic standardized SVG county maps of US states (which I just discovered) when applicable, so keep an eye on that if you are interested. WallAdhesion (talk) 23:55, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sounds good, thanks so much! Putitonamap98 (talk) 23:56, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- @WallAdhesion Hey, a question about the Virginia map, was there a really big difference on how the border of Newport News and York County looked? Just wanting to know before i make any more maps for pre 2007 election articles, I want them to be accurate. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Virginia_county_map_2007_to_2013.svg Putitonamap98 (talk) 23:08, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- This is a good question. My primary source for this sort of thing is The Newberry Library. That project only goes up to 2000, but the good news is that according to the Census Bureau the maps didn't change between 2000 and 2007, so I was still able to use the Newberry Library for this. Anyway, long story short I believe the change would be big enough to be visible on our Wikimedia Commons maps at the current level of detail, but would be pretty hard to see without zooming in. It's a bit smaller than the Wisconsin change I first showed up in your talk page asking about, for reference.
- If you want I can try to make a map with that change, though I've been really busy lately so I might not get to it for a while (weeks).
- If you are interested, here is a visualization. You can scroll up and down to see the change. The two changes between Newport News and York are real, but I believe the rest of the changes you'll see in the visualization along the shoreline are phantom changes, artifacts of the fact that they are using two different data sources which differ in how closely they trim to the waterline. (I also don't know how legit that site is, but I'm not relying on them for anything here so it's fine.) WallAdhesion (talk) 03:46, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @WallAdhesion Okay well if the change isn't that big I won't worry about it then. I just wanted to know before I start making a new version of the 2002 Virginia Senate map https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_United_States_Senate_election_in_Virginia and the rest of the pre 2007 maps. I know Virginia did not have Independent cities before the 1950s but other than that I can't think of any truly noticeable boundary changes. Putitonamap98 (talk) 09:13, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Tennessee/NC Congressional map by counties
edithey, can you by any chance crop the by county results for both Tennessee and North Carolina 2022 please? WikiFazBear1984 (talk) 14:46, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- @WikiFazBear1984 i can't promise when i will get to it because there are alot of other maps I need to update first with the new standard shapes but if you are interested i can tell you how to use inkscape and how to color in the maps, it's really easy and we could really use the help. If you are interested go ahead and look up Inkscape and install it, it's free and message me when you have it and I will walk you through it. Putitonamap98 (talk) 02:00, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Getting rid of border lines
editHey, thanks for getting rid of the border lines in the file I uploaded, I wasn't able to find a way to do it.
Speaking of, how do you do it lol.
It's probably a simple fix but I'm still not that good with Inkscape/QGIS. LandonExists (talk) 21:41, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey no problem on inkscape all i had to do was right click and drag and select everything then on the right side click on the stroke option and added a stroke since there wasn't one defined. Then i clicked on the select stoke color option and used the select color option and then just clicked on the white background to make the stroke lines all white to be noticeable. Not sure if this helps I'm not the best at explaining things sometimes lol and some people's program are different looking depending on which version you have installed. here's a video that also might help better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o86MLSQHtMg
- @LandonExists Could i ask you a favor to also please make a Raleigh, NC map so we can add precinct maps for those mayoral election articles as well? Depending of course if the election data is also available on the website and that the shapes are of course accurate. Thanks Putitonamap98 (talk) 11:06, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- 1. Thanks for the help, I got the border lines correct in less than a minute.
- 2. I'd be glad to (I was actually gonna do that one next), my only problem is I'm not sure what color scheme to use. I know we use alt colors for nonpartisan races but because there's two democrats who won precincts and there's no democrat (alt alt) listed here, I'm kinda at a loss there LandonExists (talk) 18:07, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- @LandonExists i usually just use the green color for alt dem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Elections_and_Referendums/USA_legend_colors/proposals
- i did it with the Dallas precinct map i made https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Dallas_mayoral_election Putitonamap98 (talk) 17:42, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Putitonamap98 cool, i just need to update the shapefiles for the charlotte mayoral elections because i forgot to account for city border changes. once i get that done i should be able to complete the raleigh map in no time. LandonExists (talk) 03:13, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Texas Historic County Boundaries
editHello! I see that you are updating old Texas county maps with updated lines for the border between Jefferson and Orange Counties. If you are doing this for every map, I think you should know that Tarrant and Denton Counties also changed their borders in 2003, moving the border further north. If you are going to be updating these maps, please include this change, too. Thanks. OutlawRun (talk) 00:15, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- huh couldn't find that change in the newberry library https://digital.newberry.org/ahcb/map/map.html#TX which shows all historical county boundaries. Is it a change that is really noticeable without zooming in alot? cause if it is the new v2 maps use more simpler shapes that don't include every little detail of a county boundary just the big ones. I'm also not the best at changing the county boundaries unless it's basic changes like counties merging or the lines being straighten. Putitonamap98 (talk) 00:46, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- The old boundary is there in the library you linked. It's just hard to notice because it's one straight line being turned into another straight line. The way you can tell is the fact that there is a visible corner at the intersection of Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties, whereas in the modern map, it makes a straight T intersection with no visible jutting. OutlawRun (talk) 04:07, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing a change pre 2003 like you said the last one i see is 1975 but if the change is barely noticeable i wouldn't worry about it since the shape files aren't super detailed Putitonamap98 (talk) 04:20, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- The old boundary is there in the library you linked. It's just hard to notice because it's one straight line being turned into another straight line. New York Maps
editHey I saw that you tried adding the lakes in upstate new york, but they really dont look good. I think you should take them down and just use the political divisions of the counties and leave out geographic features Gordfather69 (talk) 22:56, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- i don't make the maps sorry but you can ask someone who is good with editing map county boundaries and remove them but we should stick with the new v2 shapes because they are detailed but more simplified and use alot less memory and are bigger, and since you can see every little detail of a county in the old maps it's better for when editing to show what the county boundaries looked like in the past as alot have change throughout the 20th century Putitonamap98 (talk) 10:11, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
St Louis
editFor Approval voting elections like in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_St._Louis_mayoral_election, could you plot each candidate separately?

1880 Pennsylvania
editHello. On the 1880 Election in Pennsylvania, would you be able to change the file from the file that it is currently to the file titled "1880 Presidential Election in Pennsylvania.svg"? The current one has a white background while this file doesn't have that. Thanks. ZackCarns (talk) 12:22, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

User rights
editHello there. I just got the autopatroller rights, so I am going to go back in a overwrite all of the original files that I replaced with uploaded files so hopefully, people won't have any complaints about not overwriting original files. ZackCarns (talk) 16:32, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- ok good to hear it just helps not to have duplicates or unused map files that are not categorized under sets, congrats appreciate it very much Putitonamap98 (talk) 23:39, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Do you know how to fix the projection of a map that is used for Wikipedia? Because I can easily make maps that aligned with that specific year's boundaries, but I am having issues with having the correct projection for the map when I upload it here. If you know how to make the projection be right, then I can figure that out and make these updated maps and not have any issues. ZackCarns (talk) 02:53, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- I have no idea, man sorry. But those aren't the maps i want to use anyways, the file sizes are way too big and don't use the same shapes as the standardized, looking for someone to adapt from those when make historical county maps Putitonamap98 (talk) 12:25, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ah okay. Yeah, I don't know how to do that. ZackCarns (talk) 13:21, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Please do not add margins to maps
editWith your "shapes" changes you have added useless margins to many election maps. Here are some examples: Alabama 1968, Idaho 1968, Illinois 1970, Rhode Island 1996, Florida D26 2018. (Gladly your recent uploads do not show this problem, e.g. Boston 2013 and Seattle 2021.) By changing the image proportions you have not just disimproved the individual images, but also the image sets they are part of, by making them inconsistent. Please correct this mistake. See also Category talk:United States Senate election maps of Illinois (set). Watchduck (quack) 10:11, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- i honestly can not figure out what you're saying here, what do you mean by margins? like hidden margins within the map file? Because when i opened the files to edit in inkscape i never leave behind any numbers or color palettes. And all i am doing is updating the maps with the new standardized shapes https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Standardized_SVG_county_maps_of_US_states that are much higher quality in detail than the old ones that were extremely simplified. These are not just "small changes" It will take time to update all these i've been working hard on this every day for the last two years so please don't insult my work whatever changes need to be made that are minor i could look into later but keep in mind this has been a years long process. Putitonamap98 (talk) 19:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- A margin is empty space around an image. Adding a margin is the opposite of cropping. Please look at the file history of Illinois 1970. The size of the initial version by Over9000edits is 187×337. Yours is 810×810. Your image is a square, because you have added empty space to the left and right of the motive. (I realized this, because I use the Illinois images as an example of an image stack.) --Watchduck (quack) 23:36, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- oh ok i understand now but the files created by Awmcphee used that size and i just used his base maps and colored them in. i am not going back and changing them all now like i said it has already taken me around 2 years and i am still not done and already have a majority changed Putitonamap98 (talk) 23:42, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Maryland county shapes
editI Overwrote File:Maryland county map, cb 500k.svg so it could stay consistent with the historical county maps. I dont know a way to make the historical county maps using the standardized shapes. I just get them from newberry. JosephBobilly (talk) 02:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Question about the 2024 election
editHey there. I have a question about the elections in November. Are we waiting for the results to come in for each state before we make county maps or are we going to do it on the fly, or has that not even been discussed? Because it will be extremely busy on pages about all of the elections and I think it would be best for everyone if we have a definitive decision on how users make and edit maps relating to the election so there isn't complete chaos. Historical maps
editHey there. I have finally figured out how to make historical maps using Newberry, so I am going to start the process of making and updating maps with historical boundaries. ZackCarns (talk) 17:12, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok awesome I've been looking for someone for that. Can you keep the style the same as the original maps? Putitonamap98 (talk) 20:50, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have updated every map that I can and have added any map that hasn't been added yet. I already went ahead and created files for the Presidency, Senate, and Gubernatorial maps for this year already. Let me know if there are any other maps that you would like me to add. ZackCarns (talk) 21:43, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Although, I did not do all for Louisiana because there is an issue with the zip file from Newberry because the boundaries for Louisiana from pre-1843 do not show up when I do it in QGIS for some reason and it's a Louisiana-only problem because I can do it for other states and it works completely fine. New Jersey Election Maps
editHello, I see you make election maps for individual states and I think you do a great job with it. I thought I should let you know that for New Jersey’s maps, Union and Hudson County appear to be bordered when they are not, as the Newark Bay is between them. Would you be able to adjust that on the maps, please? Please let me know what you can do and reply if you have any questions, thank you! JE98 (talk) 11:08, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
If this helps, these are the two counties in question:
