Image Tagging Image:Dryandra_Woodland_entrance.jpg
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Dryandra_Woodland_entrance.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. -- Bryan (talk to me) 11:09, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

editG'day mate. What makes you think the rather inappropriately named Image:Eremophila oldfieldii.jpg is PD-Australia? Hesperian 05:38, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Nope. If you're referring to me pulling out of the meetup, that was a disappointing decision to make, and it certainly hasn't made my day more pleasant, but it wasn't triggered by external events or mood either. If you're looking for details/background/context for that, drop me an email; I'm about to log off for now, but will be happy to reply later. Hesperian 05:56, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 20:48, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for uploading Image:An Account of the Expedition of the HMS Success p32 (2).jpg, however the license that you have uploaded it under has been deprecated. Please could you select a new free license that describes the rights of the image correctly? If you are not able to do this, the image will be deleted in 7 days.
For more information on licenses that can be used on Wikimedia Commons, please see Commons:Licensing. If you have any questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you for your patience and consideration. This is an automatic message by Nikbot.--Filnik 01:37, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Giant pineapple
editHello Moondyne. Thank you for sharing so many great images! There is an image that you contributed of a Giant Pineaple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:GiantPineappleNambour.jpg) which my organisation would like to use for a non-commercial educational project. There are a couple of point that I need to clarify with you because the GNU Documentation License and Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike licences do not entirely align with the publishing context at hand. Is there some way that I can discuss this matter with you privately? Thanks :-)

You're now a filemover
editHi Moondyne, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one.
- Please do not tag redirects as Speedy. Other projects, like InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references.
- For guideline when to rename a file, please see here.
Autopatrol given
editHello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Dferg (talk · meta) 13:20, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Concern
editI do not like the spelling or usage of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Theaters_in_Perth and would consider usage requires Theatres in Perth, Western Australia - what do you think ? SatuSuro (talk) 14:23, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- I would have thought a move is appropriate, same as Category:Theaters in Australia and several of its children. But (proposed guideline) Commons:Naming categories#Language says "Creating intermingled category structures in different languages would only make things worse." Commons being multilingual, perhaps its not as critical as WP. I'm not familiar with policies here to comment beyond that. Moondyne (talk) 14:57, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
editA community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Uploads of image files from the National Library of Australia "Trove" archive portal
editHiya - I just posted this message to User:Colin_Douglas_Howell's commons talk page, I think some of it is relevant for you -
"I found your upload of a photo of the very goofy Vickers Vulcan, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vickers_Vulcan_Type_61_G-EBET_(148227972).jpg. I wanted to replace it with a higher-resolution copy, but the "Upload a new version of this file" system fails - a change was made in September to limit the feature to the file's original uploader and users with autopatrol rights. I can request rights manually on a per-file basis, but that would be a pain in the hoop to do for more than a few images, and I think you've uploaded more than a few from the NLA's "Trove" archive.
The jpegs the NLA give out willingly are low-resolution and very compressed, but you can use https://dezoomify.ophir.dev/ to get a single file from the tiles their image viewer uses (if you go to use it at any point, the system the Trove site uses is "Seadragon (Deep Zoom Image)"). I ended up submitting the file as a new upload, mostly so I could link it here - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vickers_Vulcan_G-EBET,_1923.jpg - for if you'd like to save it and submit it as a new version yourself. And I thought you might find the tool handy in future - it's silly that they only give out low-quality files even for photos in the public domain which their servers are already sending out, the only way they're meaningfully different from a high-resolution version is that they're more likely to frustrate."
After finding that photo and ending up on the Trove archive I ended up googling Horrie Millar, and you uploaded the portrait used on his wiki page, which also came from the NLA Trove site - https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-148164129/view. It's a deadly portrait, probably worth uploading a higher-quality file, and if you share more things from that archive, or others with awkward content provision notions, that tool is good to know about.
